The Bruins have a No. 1 goalie and Tim Thomas is starting to play like someone intent on returning to the All-Star Game.

Thomas, an All-Star last year, became the first Boston goaltender this season to play two games in a row when he went Monday in Edmonton and Tuesday in Vancouver. With a pair of 1-0 shutouts in the bank, look for Thomas to go again Thursday in Calgary as the Bruins look to sweep their three-game trip to western Canada.

Thomas gave the Bruins back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 1999 and back-to-back 1-0 blankings for the first time since Cecil Thompson did it in 1936. By the way, those straight 1-0 wins became three straight 1-0 wins when Thompson did it again.

Even though there's never an early announcement, look for Thomas to try to give the Bruins three straight shutouts for the first time since Nov. 20-24, 1977.

"As soon as the game was over Monday, I knew who I was going with," Bruins coach Claude Julien said after Tuesday's win. "Not only did he get a shutout, but he played well. When I say something I keep my word, and my word is, if somebody is going to get hot, he's going to get the chance to take the ball and run with it."

That means Jarome Iginla and the Flames Thursday night.

BRUINS 1, CANUCKS 0: One night later. Different province. Same result.

The only difference was this one took only 60 minutes.

Tim Thomas pitched his second 1-0 shutout in 24 hours, this time making 31 saves as the Bruins won their third in a row.

Asked after the game what was working for him, Thomas said, "I think what was working was the whole team, it's not just me. I know it's a cliche but a goalie is very dependent on his team, there's no doubt about that.

"We came up with some huge blocks at the right time and some huge penalty kills the last two nights."

Michael Ryder ended his eight-game goal-scoring drought while the Bruins played with an extra man after a delayed penalty was called on Vancouver. The goal came in the first period -- a lot earlier than Dennis Wideman's overtime goal in Edmonton Monday -- and that was it for the scoring.
