The Bruins just continue to pass all the tests. Saturday night, they passed another one.

"They've got a lot of pieces on their team. They have a chance to be successful," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said after his team was thumped by the B's at TD Banknorth Garden, which was sold out for the second time in as many days.

This was a time when the cracks could have shown for the Bruins if those cracks in fact exist. It was the Bruins' 10th game in 18 nights, the second game of a back-to-back, their No. 1 goalie, Tim Thomas, was sick, and the Stanley Cup champions were in town.

But the cracks didn't show. At least there were virtually none after a slow start, and the team again showed this may well be more than just some sort of early season fluke.

The Bruins went 11-1-1 in November, winning eight straight games at home during the month. It was their most productive month in 30 years, and they have won nine in a row at home for the first time in 25 years.

They have also become relevant again in Boston. Hoping to build on the excitement they created by rallying to almost beat Montreal in last season's playoffs, they are off to a 16-4-4 start and, after a few days to rest and regroup, head to Florida for the first two games of a stretch that calls for four of the next five on the road.

BRUINS 4, RED WINGS 1: The Bruins didn't get a shot on goal for almost 12 minutes, then dominated the Stanley Cup champs for the final 48.

"The first 10 minutes we did a lot of watching," Bruins coach Claude Julien said after the game.

But Blake Wheeler and Phil Kessel scored on two of the club's first three shots, and Chuck Kobasew and David Krejci also scored in what became rather rude treatment of the champs.

Michael Ryder, switched Friday to the line with Krejci and Wheeler, followed a two-goal game with two assists and Krejci and Wheeler also had assists to back Manny Fernandez's sixth straight win in goal.

The Bruins have scored 32 goals during the winning streak, 11 in the last two games as Fernandez, who made 29 stops Saturday night, played both with Tim Thomas under the weather.
